The first actual sentence in the text is, “Though you may approach a course in anatomy and physiology strictly as a requirement for your field of study, the knowledge you gain in this course will serve you well in many aspects of your life.” I doubt any of us instructors walk into the classroom, and say something like “OK, we’re all here because of course requirements so let’s get this over with.” That’s an exaggeration of what this first sentence implies, but all the same at the beginning of a course begins, I try to generates some genuine enthusiasm by showing students fascinating images, discussing unanswered questions, and telling real-life discovery stories.
